WASHINGTON, DC- If anyone can figure out exactly what the hell Joe Biden is up to, please let us know. Because seemingly with every decision he (or his handlers) makes, they simply do not seem to have the best interests of the United States in mind.
In February 2021 for some inexplicable reason, the Biden administration removed an Iran-backed jihadi group, the Houthis from the list of known terrorist groups. Apparently not quite as “dangerous” as school parents or Trump voters, the group was removed from the list due to so-called “humanitarian” reasons.
Yet just over one year later, a student rally held by the Houthis in the Yemen city of Hajjah was televised on the Houthi network Al-Masirah TV and featured a student who proclaimed:
“Placing their trust in Allah, our missile forces are continuing to strike deep inside Saudi Arabia and the UAE. God willing, our UAVs will reach Tel Aviv [Israel] and New York in the very near future.”
For those not familiar, a UAV is an unarmed aerial vehicle, aka a drone. Now while it is highly unlikely that a Houthi drone is capable of reaching New York City without getting shot down, the statement revealed the sheer degree of tone deafness this administration has.
In removing the group from the terror list last year, an unnamed person from the State Department said:
“Our action is due entirely to the humanitarian consequences of this last-minute designation from the prior administration, which the United Nations and humanitarian organizations have since made clear would accelerate the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.”
Ah, it’s Trump’s fault.
This statement is of course absurd. When Biden removed the terror designation from the Houthis, it has only been in place for a matter of a few weeks, which means this so-called “humanitarian crisis” couldn’t have been crippling. They were only added to the terror list in January 2021, mere weeks before Biden took office.
Of course when Trump levied the designation, he was widely excoriated by leftist media and 22 aid groups operating in Yemen, who demanded the designation be “immediately” revoked. And like the puppet that he is, Biden willingly went along as soon as he was inaugurated. And now we’ve seen that just as in so many other examples, President Trump was right once again.
The student who expressed hope that Houthi drones would someday attack New York didn’t think that up by himself. In November 2021, Al-Masdar Online, a Yemeni media outlet, reported that Houthis stormed the US embassy (closed in 2015) in Yemen’s nominal capital, Sana’a.
Once inside, they seized “large quantities of equipment and materials.” Only days prior, the Houthis “kidnapped three Yemeni nationals affiliated with the U.S. Embassy,” the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) reported.
A spokesman for the State Department confirmed the Yemeni report as follows:
“The United States has been unceasing in its diplomatic efforts to secure their release. The majority of the detained have been released, but the Houthis continue to detain additional Yemeni employees of the embassy.”
The spokesman continued that they “are being detained without explanation and we call for their immediate release.”
He continued that the U.S. was “concerned about the breach of the compound” and called “on the Houthis to immediately vacate it and return all seized property.”
Of course, tough talk coming from the Biden administration sent the Houthis cowering in fear and they immediately vacated our embassy, correct? Not so much.
According to Voice of America on Feb. 24, the Houthis “detained another official of the long-closed U.S. Embassy there, bringing the number of local ex-U.S. Embassy staffers in the rebel group’s custody to at least 11, according to accounts from Yemeni officials and others.”
According to the State Department, they claimed to be making “unceasing” efforts to gain the hostages released. However what leverage does the Biden administration now have against the Houthis, since they removed them from the terror watch list? None.
Voice of America reports that the Biden administration may in fact be ready to admit that (once again) Trump was right. It is reported that members of the Biden administration are “considering redesignating the Houthis or individual Houthi leaders as terrorists, a step that carries harsh U.S. government penalties for those doing business with them.”
In other words, right back to step one, or just before they decided to grab their ankles and give in to the terrorists, which led to exactly what is going on in Yemen now.
Does anyone believe that a newly-discovered “tough-talking” Biden will realize his appeasement of terrorist groups, including towards the Iranian terrorist state is a bad idea and he may abandon that policy? Is it likely Biden and company will realize their proposal to reopen the Iran nuke deal is simply a terrible idea and not in the best interests of U.S. national security?
Nah, not a chance.
